Q:

What are the side effects of blood thinners?

A:

If you are taking a blood thinning drug, such as Aspirin, Clopidogrel, Prasugrel or Ticagrelor, the most common side effect would be bleeding. This can be seen by bruising easily if you were to injure yourself, or you will notice that a cut takes longer to stop bleeding. This happens because the body takes longer to clot when it starts bleeding due to the medication. If you have questions about potential side effects, you should review these with your physician.

Q:

How long will I have to wait for valve surgery?

A:

Your current diagnosis and medical condition will be carefully considered in determining the timing of your valve surgery. Some people have surgery done right away at the time of diagnosis if their symptoms warrant it, and others are able to wait a few weeks or months and have the surgery done as an elective procedure. If you are waiting for valve surgery and experience new or changing symptoms, speak with your physician.

Q:

What is the treatment for an ankle sprain?

A:

The typical suggestions for treating a sprained ankle include rest, ice, bracing and physiotherapy to allow the tendons and ligaments involved a chance to recover. The majority of ankle sprains are resolved using these treatment options, however some will require surgical repair.
